Rainy Season

Not much has been happening in Egbelu since the completion of the wall and the well.  With the rainy season in full force transportation from Owerri is difficult if not impossible so Kennedy hasn't been able to get to the site often.

We are still waiting on the final plans from the architect to get a firm estimate on the cost of the buildings.  But we are moving ahead with fundraising with our BUY A BLOCK campaign.  Due to the tropical climate most buildings in Nigeria are constructed of cement blocks.  So we are giving you the opportunity to buy a block for our clinic building.  The cost of one block is $2.  That includes materials and labor to make the block and install it.  We'll even scribble your name on it with a crayon if you'd like!  Please be generous in your contribution to this campaign.

The Wall!

We have all been hearing a lot about walls this year, but this is a wall we can get excited about!  And the people on the other side don't have to pay for it.

Kennedy is moving steadily along making sure our plans are being brought to fruition.  Even though it is the height of the rainy season work continues on the building site in Egbelu.  We are getting excited to see things taking shape.

PROGRESS CONTINUES

Kennedy has sent the following updates through John:

Wednesday - Greetings again from Pueblo. Kennedy sent to me the pictures of the borehole (well) so I decided to share.

Tomorrow they will finish uprooting the palm trees. Next Tomorrow they will start digging the foundation for the wall.

Kennedy will make plans to buy a water storage tank (300-400 litters); and will plan renting a generator set to pump the water into the tank for the block/brick layers to use for their work. He will also start buying blocks, sand, granite, cement etc for the wall. Hopefully by Monday, they will start laying the blocks.

He will furnish us with updates.

Thursday - Today Kennedy and his crew started digging the wall foundation. They have also completed uprooting the entire 34 palm trees. He has also succeeded in buying a 450 liter water tank.

Tomorrow he will go to market to buy hose that will be used to channel water from the sumo (pump) to the tank. He will also start the purchase of cement and other stuff.

We will see what he comes up with by tomorrow.
