PHASE 1

Hospital Building - COMPLETED!

Construction of the hospital building began in January 2018 and it was competed in June, 2019. It will be used as a clinic building until we complete Phase 3 of construction, the clinic and administrative building. A 40’ cargo container of medical supplies and equipment donated by Project C.U.R.E. in Denver, Co., was delivered to Egbelu in June 2020. Staff was hired and Saturday clinic hours were held during the month of December. On January 11, 2021, the clinic was opened for full time operation.

The hospital includes a surgical suit, labor and delivery room, patient rooms, on-call rooms for staff, and a nursery. Until the clinic building is constructed the chapel is being used as a waiting room for the clinic. The space marked “courtyard” has been enclosed and serves as the pharmacy. This has allowed us to offer both clinic and inpatient services immediately.

PHASE 2

Staff Quarters - Completed!

In November of 2020 we began work on staff quarters. The arrival of the cargo container full of equipment and supplies necessitated using the unfinished building for storage. In January of 2022 we purchased a cargo container to use for storage. The building was emptied and all equipment and supplies moved into the storage container. It was decided that the building was better suited for use as the water treatment plant, so renovations began to transform the building into a small factory.

New Staff Quarter were erected adjacent to the hospital to house hospital staff and the manager for the water plant. The building was completed and staff moved in in December of 2022.

PHASE 3

Water Treatment and Packaging Plant - Completed!

When we discovered that our well water was extremely contaminated, we decided to find a water filtration system to provide clean water to the clinic. We realized that a system would be able to purify more water than we could use, so it seemed prudent to look into packaging water to sell to the surrounding community. Everyone in Nigeria drinks packaged water, mostly in little plastic pillows know as “sachets”. We are in the process of redesigning the building that was to be used for staff quarters to accommodate the water treatment and packaging plant.

The water plant will not only supply clean water but also jobs for local villagers. The profits will help to support the clinic costs.

PHASE 4

Clinic Building

The Clinic building will include exam rooms, office space, a laboratory and pharmacy.  We will also have space for a kitchen and cafeteria and a conference room for educational programs. We are contemplating the possibility of adding a second floor with a community room to be used for education. This will increase the cost of construction, but if funds are available it will give us more flexibility in the future to serve the community.

The expected cost for building and equipping the Clinic as shown is $50,000.
